Well, today my daughter is on her way to Washington D.C. They left at 5:00 this morning. I heard from her at 12:30 and they had just ate lunch in Louisiana. I am so anxious to hear that they make it ok. There were about 45 kids and about 15 adults going. They are going to have such a wonderful time. She called once to tell me to look in my purse for 3 notes. One to me, one to her father and one to her brother.........She is so funny. She assured me that she would drink a ton of water and eat fruits and vegetables while she was gone. She is so funny. Will write more as I hear from her.
6:00 pm - she just called and said that they are in Alabama and getting ready to eat supper. She has been having a great time, playing games and sleeping. Will post more later.
10:20 pm - she just called. They are in their hotel room in Chattanooga, TN. They have to be at breakfast at 5:00 am then off to Washington D.C. in the morning. She is tired, but had a great trip, so far.
10:00 am - she just called and they are in Virginia. They went to bed at 1:30 and got up at 3:00 and left at 6:00 this morning. She said that she slept on the bus for about 4 hours.
They arrived in Baltimore around 7:00 pm their time. They were so tired. They are staying in Baltimore and going to work with the Salvation Army there and then go into D.C. I think Monday or Tuesday.
10:00 pm - She just called and told me about what a great time they had at church today and that the kids did a talent show tonight and it was really funny. Then she said that they were going to some museum tomorrow that started with a "S". I said, "You are going to the SMITHSONIAN?????? Wow !!! They voted between the one about space or the one about history and they voted on history! MAN, I would be in heaven. I love American history. What a blessing for my child to go to the Smithsonian.

You can click on this link to take you to the Smithsonian Web page......IT IS FASCINATING!!! This is a very interactive web site. Let me know what you think~!
She called last night at 6:00 (6/19/06) and had been to the Smithsonian. She told me about the biggest quilt that she had ever seen and it was all about our country's history and about the former president's wives dresses. She was quite impressed with it all.
She called this morning (6/20/06) and was at the Salvation Army getting ready for their morning Vacation Bible School. They are supposed to sing in front of the Lincoln Memorial today and then tour the World War II Memorial later. She said that there is a 30% chance of rain. Sure hope that doesn't spoil their plans. Man, I miss my girl.
She called tonight about 10:15 her time (6/20) and said that they got to sing in front of the Lincoln Memorial! How cool is that?!? They quickly got to see the Vietnam Memorial and then when she went toward the World War II memorial, it was time to get on the bus! She begged them to let her take pictures for her grandfather that served in WWII. One of the adults took her over there so that she could take some great pictures quickly. That meant the world to her! Her grandfather will probably never get to see it himself. It was a wonderful day. She was very tired. Oh my gosh I miss that kid!
She called me last night and said that (6/22/06) they got to sing at Upper Senate park and then later got to see the Whitehouse!!! They parked somewhere and then walked up to the gate. They did not go in, but at least got to see it! She thinks that someone on the roof waved at them! HA how funny. She said that she grabbed some of the grass from the Whitehouse lawn to keep. What a funny kid. They took a tram and toured the Arlington Cemetery and watched the changing of the guards. They left this morning (6/23/06) to come home. They will stay in Birmingham, Alabama tonight and head on in tomorrow. She is exhausted but had a great time.
Welcome home........She had such a great time of just being with our wonderful kids in our youth group and with the awesome adults that went with them. I praise God for all of them and for an incredible Music Minister with a servant's heart. All of the kids got the opportunity to get to know other kids and it created such an incredible bond and experiences with the children in Washington D.C. that they will never forget. They got to see incredible places in our history that many people only see on T.V. I dropped the pictures off to be developed yesterday......all almost 90!
