Galveston

Yesterday, took the kids to Galveston, primarily to see the Titanic Exhibit at Moody Gardens. We saw the presidents statue thingy on the way.....hard to take a picture in a moving car. We ate lunch at Fudruckers and then went to Moody Gardens. On the strand, we saw a ducky boat/car thing. That's pretty funny if you ask me a boat that you can drive. We also got to see a Cruise Ship docked. I had never seen one up close............It's really bigger than you can imagine. I wonder how it compared in size to the Titanic.

At Moody Gardens for the Titanic Exhibit, they would not allow cameras, sad face..... Your ticket into the exhibit is a replica of the boarding pass on to the Titanic. Each ticket has the name of a real passenger on the back a little of the history of that person. My person was Mrs. Olive Potter. She was in first class, was 23 years old and was traveling with her mother, a friend, and her dog. She was an avid traveler, making several trips to Spain and Bermuda throughout her life. Then at the end of the exhibit, there is a huge wall with the names of all of the passengers and you can tell if your person perished or survived the voyage. I am happy to say that my friend, Mrs. Potter survived. I did some research and found her picture: That is why we watched the movie the night before. The kids love the movie and I didn't tell them that we would see the exhibit until the movie was over. They were totally fascinated by it! It has real pictures of the ship, a replica of a states room, the menus, dishes, perfume, a purse, a wallet, etc that was recovered from the wreckage. If you like that sort of thing, you would love seeing the exhibit. To read more about the history of the Titanic, click here.

Then we went through the aquarium at Moody Gardens. I love seeing the penguins. We must have watched them for at least 30 minutes. We then walked the beach until sunset. A wedding was going on right there on the beach. The kids built a sand dome and we didn't get home until about 10:30 last night. It was a really fun day.
