Memorial Day.........

We walked among the crosses

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.

Memorial Day

We drove to Lake Livingston to eat lunch with my Mom and Stepdad. We grilled hamburgers and enjoyed visiting. Russell showed the kids some old pictures of him in the Navy and as a boy growing up. My Mom is standing by her garden. She is growing some tomatoes, squash, carrots, cucumbers and bell peppers. We drove down to the lake. Can you see the blue heron on the bulk head?

Movie Night

Saturday night, we rented "A Night At The Museum"......Oh my goodness, what a great movie. This is a movie for all ages. It was wonderful.

6th grade girls sleepover

Friday night I spent the night with 7 little 6th grade girls. We stayed at the other 6th grade girls teacher's home. We had such a blast. I love these kids so much. The other teacher is so awesome. She decorated each room in her house with a different theme. The dining room was 4th of July.....the den was Christmas and the girls decorated the Christmas tree when they got there. The kitchen was April Fool's and there were rubber bugs and snakes everywhere. I can't tell you how many times I got a rubber bug or snake in my face....One bedroom was Easter with easter eggs hidden, the bathroom was Valentines day and one room was Thanksgiving. We played games, had a scavenger hunt, had 4 different bible studies and did skits until 5:00 in the morning! Miss Lisa was exhausted, but would do it again in a heart beat. We had special visitors at 10:30 that night dressed up like characters from the Incredibles to invite them to camp. Too funny. We laughed until we cried and had the very best time. I am so blessed to be their teacher. They kept thanking us and saying that it was the best sleepover of their life!

Basketball.....

Johnny just finished up this basketball season with the church league. He is getting better every single year. It was a quick season and now we look forward to the fall season with the school. He is on the gold team and is number 51. Great job, Johnny!!!

Amy's recital

Last night, we went to Amy's recital. It was all of the voice lesson students at the High School. Amy did such a fantastic job. She has such a lovely voice. I took a video of her singing, but she won't let me put in on my blog. We were so very proud of her!!! These are pictures with her choir teachers and her voice coach.

Memorial Day.........

As we all enjoy a Monday off from work and school, may we remember why we get that day off. As we enjoy time with our friends and family this weekend, let's take time to pray for our troops that are fighting for our freedom. I heard this song this morning on the jazz station that I listen to and loved it...

Band Concert

Last night was the end of the year band concert. It was bitter sweet because it was the last concert for the band director. She is moving the end of the summer. She has done a fantastic job with our kids. They have won all kinds of awards under her guidance and leadership. She pushed them to be their best and it showed.

I taped the Symphonic band playing......."In The Mood"

Roman Holiday

My kids absolutely loved this movie. I told them that they are the only young people that know who Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are. Even Johnny said, "Mom, I can't believe that the old movies are this good."

Miraculous Staircase

I have been to this chapel many times as I grew up 60 miles south of there in Albuquerque.

...Two mysteries surround the spiral staircase in the Loretto Chapel: the identity of its builder and the physics of its construction.

When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1898, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Carpenters were called in to address the problem but they all concluded access to the loft would have to be via ladder as a staircase would interfere with the interior space of the small Chapel.

Legend says that to find a solution to the seating problem, the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. On the ninth and final day of prayer, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks. After searching for the man (an ad even ran in the local newspaper) and finding no trace of him, some concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, who came in answer to the sisters' prayers.

The stairway's carpenter, whoever he was, built a magnificent structure. The design was innovative for the time and some of the design considerations still perplex experts today.

The staircase has two 360 degree turns and has no visible means of support. Also, it is said that the staircase was built without nails—only wooden pegs. Questions also surround the number of stair risers compared to the height of the choir loft and about the types of wood and other materials used in the stairway's construction.

Over the years many have flocked to the Loretto Chapel to see the Miraculous Staircase. The staircase has been the subject of many articles, TV specials, and movies including "Unsolved Mysteries" and the television movie titled "The Staircase."

Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong - Now You Has Jazz

Kentucky Derby 2007

Johnny and I watched the Kentucky Derby yesterday. I loved the names of the horses...."Any Given Saturday" and "I'm A Wild and Crazy Guy" Ok, am I the only one that noticed that the winning jockey didn't have any teeth???!!!!???

I have been to Churchill Downs to take a tour and to go through the museum. It was really something to see! If you ever get a chance to go to Louisville, you must try to go. It is a beautiful, historic city.

What I did yesterday.....

Yesterday, Johnny's band from school got to play at the Moore's Opera House at the campus of University of Houston. What a beautiful auditorium! It was the first time that I have been on the U of H campus. It was a little emotional to be there to think that my Father went to college there. He graduated from U of H in 1960. After the concert, we had lunch in the courtyard and then took the kids to Dave and Busters to play games. It was really fun. When Johnny and I got home, we watched the Kentucky Derby, Nacho Libre......funny movie..........and watched the Rockets lose game 7 of the western conference play off games to The Utah Jazz.....sad face!

Time-Lapse Albuquerque Intl. Balloon Fiesta

Since I grew up in Albuquerque, I got to see the balloons every year. It is an awesome sight to see!

Harry Connick, Jr.

I checked out one of his CD's this week from the library. I like it.........do you? I love this video, because it is filmed in New Orleans, obviously. My Dad was born there and lived right off of Bourbon street until he was 9. Gee, can you tell where I get my love of Jazz?
